Nova Scotia philatelist John Hall has been named the Canadian delegate of the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP) Revenue Commission.
One of 11 FIP commissions, the Revenue Commission aims to develop and promote interest in revenue collecting, which focuses on fiscal stamps issued by governments and other official entities to collect taxes or fees for wine and cannabis, among other things. The commission also works to establish rules and procedures for exhibiting revenue stamps and other aspects of “fiscal philately.”
Hall is a director of the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada and vice-president of the Nova Scotia Stamp Club. His exhibit, “The Canadian Fiscal War Tax Stamps of World War One,” was a gold-medal winner at the Royal*2019*Royale exhibition and was accepted for London 2020, a world stamp championship since postponed until 2022 due to COVID-19.
