The Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau has introduced an innovative Gibraltar Crypto Miniature Sheet, a ground-breaking tribute to European football.
“This exclusive release marks a significant milestone in philately, blending traditional stamp collecting with cutting-edge blockchain technology,” the Bureau stated in a news release.
The limited-edition miniature sheet comprises 16 £5 stamps, each showcasing the iconic Trinity Lighthouse against a breath-taking view. This captivating design is further enriched with football-themed elements on the sheet, celebrating the spirit of the sport. In a pioneering move, each miniature sheet incorporates two QR codes, connecting collectors to unique NFT (Non-Fungible Token) digital collectibles.
The bureau add, the top QR code links to an NFT featuring the Barbary Macaque, a symbol of Gibraltar’s wildlife. The second QR code, QR Code 4, provides access to an NFT centred around the opening match of the European football tournament, capturing the excitement and energy of the event. Each sheet is embedded with a unique alphanumerical code, enabling collectors to redeem their NFTs seamlessly. This venture is made possible through the Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau’s partnership with StampsDaq, an Ethereum-based blockchain’s sidechain specialising in creating, collecting, and trading digital collectibles.
The Gibraltar Crypto Miniature Sheet – Tribute to European Football 2024, with QR Code 4, was issued on July 4. As the first edition in the Gibraltar Crypto Miniature Sheet series, the bureau says this release paves the way for subsequent editions to be unveiled later this year.
