Canada Post has unveiled a new commemorative stamp paying tribute to the late Brian Mulroney, Canada’s 18th prime minister and one of the country’s most influential leaders. Known for his bold reforms, international leadership, and principled stands on major global issues, Mulroney’s legacy now takes its place in Canadian philatelic history.
The stamp captures Mulroney’s approachable and charismatic nature, featuring a relaxed and smiling portrait. Designed by the firm Paprika and printed by Colour Innovations, the stamp is issued in a booklet of 10 Permanent domestic stamps. Fittingly, the Official First-Day Cover bears a cancel from Baie-Comeau, Quebec—Mulroney’s birthplace and a nod to his humble beginnings. The private unveiling was held on March 20 at the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, where family and friends gathered to honour Mulroney’s legacy.
Mulroney’s nearly decade-long tenure as prime minister saw Canada undergo sweeping economic and political changes, from the landmark Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement to the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). On the world stage, his staunch opposition to apartheid and his leadership on environmental issues cemented his reputation as a respected global statesman.
