Family, friends and members of the philatelic community will gather Aug. 15 to celebrate the life of longtime Canadian collector, exhibitor, author and volunteer Bob Vogel, whose contributions to the hobby spanned decades.
The celebration of life will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at Big Cedar Estates, 1844 Line 13 North, in Hawkestone, Ont.
Vogel, who died in May, was widely respected for his expertise in Canadian postal stationery and his dedication to organized philately. A familiar face at stamp shows and exhibitions across the country, he was known not only for his research and writing but also for generously sharing his knowledge with fellow collectors and mentoring those new to the hobby.
His family has invited guests to celebrate his life by sharing memories, stories and laughter in a setting that reflects his love of nature and collecting. In lieu of flowers, they ask that people instead “consider spending time in nature or doing something that brings you joy.”
A tribute to Vogel’s life and lasting impact on Canadian philately was published in Canadian Stamp News, Vol. 50, No. 8 (July 21, 2026).
