Canada Post has marked the 100th anniversary of The Royal Canadian Legion with the release of a new commemorative stamp recognizing a century of service to Canada’s veterans, military families and communities.
Issued on July 17, the Permanent domestic-rate stamp celebrates one of Canada’s best-known veterans’ organizations as it reaches its centennial year. Since its founding in 1926, the Legion has become synonymous with remembrance, advocacy and community service, supporting generations of veterans while helping preserve the memory of those who served.
The stamp coincides with the organization’s official 100th anniversary. The Royal Canadian Legion traces its origins to the years following the First World War, when returning veterans established organizations to advocate for improved care, fair treatment and recognition of the sacrifices made by Canada’s servicemen and women. On July 17, 1926, several of those groups united under an Act of Parliament to form the Canadian Legion of the British Empire Service League. The organization adopted its current name, The Royal Canadian Legion, in 1961.
Today, the Legion remains one of Canada’s largest veterans’ organizations, operating approximately 1,350 branches across the country. Beyond providing support services and advocacy for veterans and their families, the organization is perhaps best known for its annual National Poppy Campaign, which distributes millions of poppies each year while raising funds to assist veterans and promote remembrance in communities nationwide.
Canada Post’s new issue reflects that enduring legacy through a clean, contemporary design centred on the Legion’s iconic banner. The stamp prominently features the dates “1926–2026” alongside the words “100 Years,” emphasizing the organization’s century of service and commitment to remembering Canada’s military heritage.
The issue was designed by Blair Thomson of Believe in and features photography by Jo Thomson, also of Believe in. Printing was completed by Colour Innovations.

The centennial issue continues Canada Post’s long tradition of recognizing organizations and individuals that have played a significant role in shaping Canada’s history. For philatelists, the stamp offers both a timely commemorative and a lasting tribute to an organization whose work has touched countless Canadian families over the past century.
