Gary Loew, the editor-in-chief of the American Philatelic Society (APS), has resigned from his role after two and a half years.
At the editorial helm of the APS, including its monthly American Philatelist, quarterly Philatelic Literature Review and all book publications, Loew joined the society as its expertizing director in 2019 before taking on the editor-in-chief role a year later.
“I think you have to be passionate, not just about the technical tasks of producing 100 full-colour pages every month and a quarterly journal as well,” Loew said in the 11th episode of the APS’ Behind the Scenes on Jan. 16. “It’s more than about proficiency; it’s also about loving the hobby, even if you’re not a philatelist yourself, but another thing also is the respect that we have for the members because they are full participants in getting this magazine produced.”
Former associate editor Susanna Mills, who joined the APS library staff in 2018 and the editorial team a year later, has taken on the editor-in-chief role effective Jan. 15. She is now joined on the APS editorial staff by senior editor Jeff Stage, who previously served as the associate editor from 2015-18.
