All Nations Stamp & Coin reaches 1,500th auction with standout offerings

Vancouver-based All Nations Stamp & Coin is set to hold its milestone 1,500th auction on Saturday, March 8, at 1:30 p.m. Pacific Time. The 215-lot sale, estimated at $100,000, is available for online viewing and bidding via the company’s website, allnationsstampandcoin.com.

The auction opens with a selection of royalty-signed photographs, including those of Nicholas and Alexandra, Queen Elizabeth II, and Prince Philip. A standout historical item is one of only three-known 1977 covers signed by all 10 Canadian premiers.

Lot 132 – New Brunswick #5, the 1860 5-cent Connell issue with sheet perforations. One of only 75 known examples, this fine unused stamp is signed by Gibbons and carries a catalogue value of $8,000.

A strong lineup of Canadian and British North America (BNA) material follows, featuring:

  • 3d and 6d Pence issue covers, mostly certified
  • A newly discovered 1891 2-cent plate essay imprint block
  • Large Queens, including rare watermarked and laid paper varieties
  • Small Queens, featuring imperforate pairs and imprint blocks
  • Jubilee issues, highlighted by a complete plate proof set and mint, used, and specimen 50-cent to $5 values
  • Maple Leaf and Numeral issues, with proofs, imperforate pairs, and plate blocks
  • Edward VII series, including never-hinged top-margin plate blocks from the Brewery Collection
  • Quebec Tercentenary imperforate pairs (five-cent to 20-cent)
  • Admirals, with experimental and paste-up coils, an inverted lathework block, and imperforates
  • Scroll issues, including booklet panes, plate proof pairs, a mint Bluenose block, and a perf-by-imperf $1 pair

Further highlights in the back-of-the-book section include an unused Aero Club $1, an unlisted Patricia Airways black proof, a Klondike Air cover, and a 5-cent Registration imperforate pair.

The British North America section features:

  • British Columbia: Incoming and outgoing Victoria express covers, plus #3 to #18 singles
  • New Brunswick: Key issues #1 to #5, including a newly rediscovered unused 5-cent Connell signed by Stanley Gibbons
  • Newfoundland: Issues from #2i to C18, with trade sample proofs and never-hinged airmails
  • Nova Scotia: Issues from #2 to #4, including a 3d cover
  • Prince Edward Island: Issues #1 to #3

Lot 213 – Hudson’s Bay Company Fort Grahame Post pre-1926 $5 card money, a scarce piece from the Hodgkinson find, reflecting the historic fur trade era.

The foreign section opens with strong China and Foreign Offices material, followed by an extensive Great Britain selection, including:

  • A May 25, 1840 Penny Black folded letter sheet (FLS)
  • Key issues #1 to #43, featuring Pound values spanning Queen Victoria to George V

Foreign issues wrap up the stamps and postal history portion of the sale, leading into a coin selection that includes:

  • A certified range of Queen Victoria-era Canadian five-cent to 50-cent coins
  • High-grade 1947 Maple Leaf and 1948 Silver Dollars
  • Gold coins from Canada, China, India, and Italy
  • An ancient coin from Aspendos and hammered coins from England

The sale concludes with the final offering of the Sydney Hodgkinson Hudson’s Bay Company British Columbia pre-1926 card money.

As with all All Nations weekly auctions, there is no buyer’s premium, and no credit card or PayPal fees.
