The American Philatelic Society (APS) has partnered with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) to unveil a commemorative postage sheet marking the 25th anniversary of the Stamp Out Hunger food drive.
The personalized souvenir sheet—printed by Photo Stamps—will be available beginning March 4 at AmeriStamp Expo in Reno, Nevada.
The souvenir sheet features some of the iconic Stamp Out Hunger campaign artwork, which was designed by artists Bil and Jeff Keane, of Family Circus comic strip fame. Jeff Keane will join representatives from the NALC to dedicate this personalized postage at a special ceremony on March 4 at 11 a.m.
The food drive is held the second Saturday each May and is the nation’s largest single-day food drive. This year’s drive will be on May 13. Letter carriers will collect non-perishable food donations on that day as they deliver mail along their postal routes.
25th ANNIVERSARY
“The fact that this year marks the 25th anniversary makes this one a bit more special,” said NALC President Fredric Rolando.
Last year’s drive collected a record of 80.1 million pounds of food, which helped to replenish pantries, food banks and shelters from coast to coast. The overall amount of food collected now totals 1.5 billion pounds.
