Six dances from around the world were commemorated on a series issued yesterday by the United Nations Postal Administration in celebration of International Dance Day.
The stamps were issued in panes of six se-tenant stamps that form a continuous design.
Established in 1982 by the International Theatre Institute, International Dance Day is celebrated annually on April 29, the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, who’s considered the creator of modern ballet.
According to International Dance Day organizers, the aim is to “celebrate dance, to revel in the universality of this art form, to cross all political, cultural and ethnic barriers and bring people together with a common language—dance.”
