South African philatelist Jan Hofmeyr, who now resides in British Columbia, has won the 2022 Single-Frame Champion of Champions award for his exhibit, “The Process That Led to the ‘Grill’ Stamps of the United States.”
Hofmeyr took home North America’s top national-level exhibiting honour this November at Chicagopex, which hosts the competition. He competed against 21 other exhibits, each of which won a Grand Award at an American Philatelic Society-accredited exhibition during the latest competition cycle, spanning from last October to this September. Hofmeyr qualified by winning the Single-Frame Grand Award at the virtual Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC) exhibition in October 2021.
Managed by the American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors (AAPE), the competition took place at AmeriStamp Expo through 2019 before moving to Chicagopex for 2020, when the show was cancelled due to the pandemic.
“In 2021, there were not enough qualifiers, so this year’s competition combined winners from 2021 and 2022,” said AAPE publicity committee chair Dawn Hamman, of Florida.
Hofmeyr is an RPSC-accredited national exhibit judge.
Earlier this year, he highlighted the U.S. “grill” stamps in a presentation for the Philatelic Specialists Society of Canada, of which he’s a member. To watch the video, visit youtu.be/sxIT7_siIYE.
