The World Cup Postage Stamp Exhibition opened this Wednesday in conjunction with the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The Qatar exhibition features more than 340 worldwide stamp plates, of which 280 focus on football World Cups—from the first tournament in 1930 in Uruguay to the current competition in the Arab country. The exhibition is on display at the Arab Postal Stamp Museum, which is part of the Katara Cultural Village Foundation.
Hussein Rajab Ismail, the executive director of the Qatar Stamps & Currencies Club, said the exhibition includes a wide range of items owned by famous football players and referees from around the world—including Brazilian legend Pelé, the all-time leading goalscorer for Brazil with 77 goals in 92 games.
