The Week in Shows (May 7-13)

There are four major stamp shows on the docket this week.

Today is the final day of StampShow ’17, which is being held at the Sunova Centre on 48 Holland Rd. in West St. Paul, Man. This year’s show is space-themed and features 50 frames of competitive and non-competitive exhibits, upwards of eight stamp and coin dealers, a youth table and concessions. Admission and parking are free.

Hosted by the Winnipeg Philatelic Society (RPSC Chapter 86), the show is open to the public today from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

OTTAWA, ONT.

Today is also the last day of the 56th Orapex, which is being held at the RA Centre on 2451 Riverside Dr. in Ottawa, Ont. This year’s show theme is “Ships and Ship Mail – Building a Nation.” Admission and parking are free.

Each year, Orapex is organized by volunteers from the RA Stamp Club (RPSC Chapter 41), the Amicale des philatélistes de l’Outaouais and the Ottawa Philatelic Society (RPSC Chapter 16). Its exhibition is also part of the American Philatelic Society’s (APS) World Series of Philately since the APS granted approval to Canadian national-level shows in 2010.

ST. CATHARINES, ONT.

Later this week, on May 13, the Best Western Stamp Show will be held in the Niagara Room of the Best Western Hotel in St. Catharines, Ont. from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sponsored by Roy’s Stamps, which specializes in the stamps and covers of Canada and the British Commonwealth, the show boasts free admission, parking and appraisals.

MONCTON, N.B.

The Moncton Stamp Fair will also be held May 13 at the Royal Canadian Legion on 100 War Veterans Ave. in Moncton, N.B. The bourse will be open to the public from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and admission as well as parking are free.
