Singapore Post (SingPost) recently issued its latest series, this featuring colourful, hand-drawn stamps celebrating the beloved board games that were popular on the island country throughout the 1970s and ’80s.
Issued in groupings of five stamps, the series’ initial release came last week. Each of these first five stamps features a traditional board game across five denominations: 1st Local (Chinese chess); 2nd Local (the diamond game); 50 cents (aeroplane chess); 70 cents (snakes and ladders); and $1.30 (checkers). The issue also included a pre-cancelled first-day cover affixed with this set of five stamps.
According to SingPost, its last series to feature traditional board games came in 1997 and included games such as shuttlecock, marbles, spinning top and five stones.
