The third annual literature competition at the Stamp Exhibition of Southern California (Sescal) is coming to Glendale, Calif., this fall.
Hosted by the Philatelic Society of Los Angeles, the World Series of Philately show will run from Oct. 28-30 with literature and regular competitions, both held in a virtual format this year.
The literature exhibition will be conducted and judged according to the American Philatelic Society’s Manual of Literature Judging and Exhibiting, an expanded publication created to complement the Manual of Philatelic Judging and Exhibiting.
“This is an exhibition of printed and electronically delivered articles related to the collection and study of postage stamps and stationery, postal history, revenue stamps and stamped paper, cinderella stamps and associated specialized fields,” according to the Sescal website, sescal.org, which includes prospectuses and entry forms.
For the literature competition, entries are confined to 8,000 words or fewer (including for multi-part article). All articles must centre on philatelic subject matter and can originate from philatelic and non-philatelic media, including club newsletters, show programs and websites. Entries must be primarily written in English; however, bilingual submissions (with English and another language) are accepted.
The original publication date must be Sept. 1, 2020, or later. Authors are limited to two entries, the entry deadline is Sept. 1, 2022, and the entry fee is $30 US (about $38 Cdn.).
