As the postal strike enters its fourth week, many Canadians who depend on social assistance may not receive their cheques in time for the holidays.
Although Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) have agreed to continue delivering certain cheques, many of the most vulnerable recipients have been excluded from the list.
Cheques for programs like the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Old Age Security (OAS), Guaranteed Annual Income System (GAINS), and the Canada-Ontario Housing Benefit (COHB) will still be delivered. However, social assistance cheques for the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) and Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities (ACSD) will not be distributed.
