Philatelic community mourns dealer Jean Dallaire

The Canadian Stamp Dealers Association (CSDA) and the broader philatelic community are mourning the sudden passing of Jean Dallaire, a respected dealer, passionate advocate for youth in philately, and a CSDA board member.

Dallaire, owner of Zimo Stamp Inc. in Lanoraie, Qué., died on April 27 at the age of 72.

Jean’s unexpected passing came just days after he attended Royale 2025 FILIX in Montréal, held April 25–26, where he was in his element—engaging with fellow collectors and passionately promoting the hobby he cherished. Renowned for his boundless enthusiasm and dedication, Jean specialized in worldwide stamp mixtures, curating a distinctive selection that reflected both his expansive knowledge and discerning philatelic eye.

Beyond his business, Jean played a crucial leadership role within the CSDA, serving on its board of directors and championing initiatives to foster interest in the hobby among young collectors. “Jean firmly believed that the future of our hobby rested in the hands of youth,” reads a statement from the CSDA. “He worked enthusiastically to share his knowledge and love of stamps with the next generation.” His warmth, generosity, and mentorship left a deep impact on both collectors and fellow dealers across Canada.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle Lévesque; his son Frédéric (André-Anne Cyr); and his cherished grandchildren, Jonathan, Maxim, and Alexandre. He is also remembered by Michelle’s children, Yan (Martine) and Mireille (Stéphan); his brother Pierre and sister Louise (Serge); as well as many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Charles E. Rajotte Funeral Complex, 765 Notre-Dame Street, Repentigny, Qué. A memorial ceremony will follow at 1 p.m.

The CSDA extends its deepest sympathies to Michelle and the entire Dallaire family, honouring Jean’s enduring legacy in the stamp community as a dealer, director, and devoted philatelic ambassador.
