Next Sparks sale postponed

Sparks Auctions, whose Ottawa offices remain closed due to COVID-19, recently postponed its upcoming sale originally scheduled for late May.

“The sale is ready to go, and we are proud to say it is the largest we have ever had, by far,” said Stéphane Cloutier, Sparks director of lotting and consignments. “At this point, the situation is too uncertain to guess when we could proceed, so we are using a ‘date to be determined’ approach.”

Sparks offers live Internet bidding (in addition to bidding from the floor, by phone and through an agent), which would align with social-distancing policies; however, it’s more difficult to accommodate “the very important viewing of material in person,” Cloutier added.

While Sparks offers online images of many lots through its website, Cloutier said in-person viewing “is an essential element to the experience.”
