Canada Post has released its latest commemorative stamp issue featuring two stunning peony hybrids, ‘Cytherea’ and ‘Marie-Victorin,’ both developed by Canadian-born horticulturists.
Celebrated for their lush, fragrant blooms, peonies are a favorite among Canadian gardeners and are widely used for wedding stationery and special announcements. The new stamps highlight the vibrant beauty of these perennials, which grace many private and public ornamental gardens across the country.
‘Cytherea,’ named after the Greek goddess of love, is a cherry rose semi-double variety with multiple rows of petals. ‘Marie-Victorin,’ a symmetrical, globe-shaped flower with pale pink petals and purple-pink flares, honors the founder of the Montréal Botanical Garden.
The stamp images were photographed by Jeffery Ofori, a Canada Post mail service courier, at the Central Experimental Farm in Ottawa, which boasts a collection of more than 400 peony varieties. Designed by Stéphane Huot, the stamps were printed by Lowe-Martin and officially cancelled in Ottawa.
The issue includes a booklet of 10 Permanent stamps and an Official First-Day Cover — as featured below.
