Plans are in full swing for Illinois’ Copmex 2018, which has a new date of June 1-3 as well as a new location at Guerin College Prep, a large high school located in River Grove, Il.
Adjacent to Chicago’s northwest side, River Grove is easily reached by major roads and public transportation and is about 10 kilometres from O’Hare Airport. Guerin College Prep also has a large parking lot, and the building is air conditioned.
This 61st-anniversary show will be open on June 1 and 2 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and on June 3 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
Compex (the Combined Philatelic Exhibition of Chicagoland) is comprised of seven Chicago-area clubs holding their individual exhibitions under the same roof at the same time. Comepx member clubs are slated to present a wide variety of exhibits.
This year’s show theme is the 200th anniversary of Illinois statehood.
Compex will again feature a beginner’s booth with free stamps and activities for aspiring and young collectors that are either new to the hobby or already working on collections. Information about collecting is also available for those wanting to get started in the hobby.
40-DEALER BOURSE
A bourse of about 40 dealers specializing in philately and deltiology will be participating to fill the needs of all levels of collecting interests. Also participating are the United States Postal Service and the United Nations Postal Administration, both of which will be offering their respective postal products and collectibles.
Dealers interested in participating in Compex 2018 are invited to contact Compex President Charles Berg at 773-775-2100.
SOCIETY MEETINGS
In addition to exhibits and dealers, several local area clubs will be holding their society meetings during Compex, including the Chicago Philatelic Society and the Chicagoland Chapter No. 5 of the Germany Philatelic Society.
According to organizers, other societies have not finalized their plans, which will be announced at a later date.
