The United States Postal Service (USPS) recently announced it will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Star Trek’s original series – much like Canada Post’s recent series – with four Forever stamps to be issued later this fall.
The official dedication ceremony is slated to take place at the Star Trek: Mission New York conference held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center – home of the recent World Stamp Show — on Sept. 2.
This latest USPS series features four separate digital illustrations inspired by the famed sci-fi TV show that premiered on Sept. 8, 1966. The stamps – designed by Heads of State of Philadelphia, under the art direction of Antonio Alcalá of Alexandria, Virg. – include:
- the Starship Enterprise depicted within an outline of the Starfleet insignia, which is set against a gold background;
- a silhouette of a crewman in a “transporter” (the show’s teleportation machine) set against a red background;
- a silhouette of the Enterprise set against a green background; and
- the Enterprise within the outline of the Vulcan salute (the revered hand gesture of Spock, who was played by late actor Leonard Nimoy) set against a blue background.
