Shortly before the opening of this year’s convention of The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC), Canada Post unveiled its latest set of five Birds of Canada stamps.
This year’s set, which will be issued on Aug. 1, features the great gray owl (Strix nebulosa); the gyrfalcon (Falco rusticolus); the osprey (Pandion haliaetus); the common loon (Gavia immer); and the blue jay (Cyanocitta cristata).
The stamps were designed by Kosta Tsetsekas, of Vancouver’s Signals Design, who also designed last year’s initial set of five stamps. Illustrator Keith Martin also returns to the series to provide richly detailed images focusing on the most striking traits of each bird.
2016 BIRDS OF CANADA
Last September, Canada Post launched the first set of five Birds of Canada stamps featuring the common raven, the Atlantic puffin, the rock ptarmigan, the sharp-tailed grouse and the great horned owl. Each bird is depicted in a characteristic pose.
