A se-tenant block of four stamps marking the centenary of the apparition of Our Lady of Fatima was issued by the Philippine Postal Corporation last month.
The Virgin Mary is said to have first appeared to three small children—Lucia dos Santos, Francisco Marto and Jacinta Marto—in Fatima, Portugal in May 1917. Unleashed a flood of grace in the midst of a world shattered by First World War.
The stamps include designs commemorating the first apparition; a portrait of Our Lady of Fatima; the last apparition, known as the “Miracle of the Sun”; and the three small children of the first apparition.
Designed by Eunice Beatrix Uy Dabu, the stamp measures 30 mm by 40 mm; has a print run of 80,000 stamps; and was printed using four-colour offset lithography by Amstar Company.
