The Canadian Military Mail Study Group (CMMSG), one of 24 active British North America Philatelic Society study groups, will host its first virtual meeting via Zoom on June 12.
Beginning at 2 p.m. (ET), the meeting will include a presentation, “Newly Discovered and Rediscovered First World War Military Mail Markings,” by Toronto’s Wayne Schnarr. Then, attendees will share their military mail collectibles in a virtual show and tell.
For more information or to join the meeting, contact CMMSG chair Mike Street, of Ancaster, Ont., at mikestreet1@gmail.com.
MILITARY MAIL
The CMMSG was formed in 1973 at that year’s BNAPEX in Calgary, Alta., where 14 BNAPS members signed up.
Some of those founding members included Ed Richardson, Clarence Stillions, Sid Bedwell, Ed Harris, Joe Purcell, Ken Ellison and J. Colin Campbell.
Their goal, which the group maintains today, was “to enable collectors with military postal history interests to meet other collectors, share research, ask questions, and provide answers regarding their specialty,” according to the group’s biography, which adds its topics of interest range from the earliest Canadian military campaigns to present-day peacekeeping missions.
