David McLaughlin, who spearheaded the drive for Canada to host the first international one-frame exhibition, is the new president of the Vincent Graves Green Philatelic Research Foundation.
“It is an honour and a privilege for me to serve as president … and to follow the paths created through the work of my predecessors Harry Sutherland, Ted Nixon, and Garfield Portch,” says McLaughlin. “We have a great board of directors and excellent staff and volunteers. We are here to serve all the philatelic communities in Canada.”
McLaughlin began his term as president on Nov. 13 and is a stalwart volunteer in Canadian and worldwide philately. A member of the foundation’s board of directors since 2019, he is president of the British North America Philatelic Society (BNAPS) for the 2022-24 term and the international liaison officer for the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC). He is also a director of the Federación InterAmericana de Filatelia, the international philatelic federation for the Americas, and past director of the RPSC and executive of the Philatelic Specialist Society of Canada. McLaughlin was the “concept originator” and chair of CAPEX 22, the world’s first International One Frame Stamp Championship Exhibition, in Toronto in June 2022.
McLaughlin’s collecting interest is the Canada 1897-98 Queen Victoria Maple Leaf issue, which he began exhibiting nationally in 2010 and internationally in 2015. His research on the issue has led to the discovery of previously unrecorded die and plate states and the reclassification of other archival items.
