Maritime hospitality, ‘superb’ exhibits, happy dealers make for a ‘highly successful’ Royal convention

With a welcoming atmosphere, high-quality exhibits, and an unforgettable president’s reception, the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC) convention, held from Sept. 20-22 in New Brunswick’s capital, brought together collectors and enthusiasts from across the country for a memorable celebration of philately.

Hosted by the Fredericton and District Stamp Club, this was the first RPSC convention held in Fredericton in 25 years, showcasing exceptional philatelic material, drawing strong regional support, and receiving glowing feedback from attendees, exhibitors and dealers, all of whom experienced the best of maritime hospitality.

Rob Lunn, who served as show chair and chair of judges and exhibits, highlighted the positive outcomes.

“The show was very much a success. Attendance numbers were good, the quality of the exhibits was superb, and the dealers left the show very happy. Based on the positive feedback we received, this show can be considered highly successful.”

RPSC president Gregg Redner echoed Lunn’s sentiment.

“I think this year’s Royal was a great success on all accounts. Dianne Earl, Rob Lunn, Ron Smith, and the other organizing committee members are to be congratulated for the remarkable thoroughness of their preparations. We have all been told about ‘maritime hospitality,’ but we had a chance to live it for three straight days. I don’t know that I have ever been to a more welcoming or friendly exhibition.”

When asked about what exceeded expectations, Lunn admitted, “I am not really sure what our expectations were, but we knew we were going to put on a great show, and I don’t think we disappointed anyone. We were really pleased with the number of attendees from around the region. We hoped folks in the region would attend, and they certainly did!”

Redner also praised the quality of the exhibits, adding that the thorough research and captivating displays made a lasting impression. As an apprentice juror, he noted, “Certainly, there was much fine material seen, but it was the way that material was displayed and the story it told that made everyone so excited.

“I was also very excited by the material that dealers brought on offer,” he added. “There really was something for everyone, and quality material was to be had at all price points.”

Among the standout moments for Lunn, three highlights were especially notable.
