The National Postage Stamp and Coin Show runs this weekend at the Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale at 6750 Mississauga Rd, Mississauga.
The show starts Friday with Colonial Acres presenting its popular Fall Premier Numismatic Auction. The two-day auction features 1,284 lots of high-quality material to be offered over two live sessions – Friday and Saturday evenings. Viewing of the lots is open to the public on Friday, Sept. 8, from 12 noon to 4:30 p.m. (in the Hazel McCallion Room A) and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9 (in the Graydon ballroom side hall). The live auctions start at 5:30 p.m. EDT on each day.
The fall sale is generating a lot of interest, especially the exceptionally rare and seldom encountered treasure – a specimen-graded 192l 50-cent, christened as “the King of Canadian coins.” With a starting bid of $133,500, this rarity is the nicer example of two known in Specimen 64. More than 50 professional numismatic and philatelic dealers from across Canada will bring their treasures to sell when the show opens to the public at 10 a.m. Saturday. The dealers will also buy and appraise collections. For a list of dealers, click here.

Admission on Sunday is $3.
Youth are also an important part of the two-day show. Cassidy Stroud, the national youth coordinator for the Royal Canadian Association of Numismatics (RCNA), will oversee the Youth Table, which is open to all youth under 16. On Sunday, Stroud and her team will present a workshop followed by a free auction, in which the young participants will receive play money to bid on actual numismatic material. The winning bidders get to keep their lots for free.
