J. Garvey & Sons updates website

J. Garvey & Sons has launched an updated website.

In a special email sent out on May 17 through Canadian Stamp News, Trixie and Les Garvey announced the updates to their website. “This updated website focuses on stamps from Canada, Australia, Great Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland,” they shared in the email. “New items will be added regularly.”

The Garvey’s noted that most of the stamps listed for sale on their website are priced between 30 and 40 percent of catalogue prices and include GST. Additionally, shipping is free until Dec. 31, 2024.

The stamp company was established by Joseph Garvey Sr. in 1960 when he started a home-based business, operating during evenings and weekends, in the Edmonton area. In March 1976, together with his son Les Garvey, the downtown branch of J. Garvey and Sons was opened as a retail shop. In August 1976, their first mail auction was released, followed by three to four price lists per year since then. That same year, they attended their first out-of-town stamp convention in Calgary. Since then, their participation in shows has expanded significantly, and they now attend approximately 30 stamp conventions and shows annually, from Victoria, B.C. to Montreal, Que., including the National Postage Stamp and Coin Show.

After several relocations within downtown Edmonton, their shop remained at the Empire Building location until 2003. They then returned to a home-based business model, producing three to four private treaty sales per year and attending numerous conventions.
