Initiatives aim to fire up the hobby

As I write this column in the midst of a heat wave in Ontario, with humidity making the temperatures feel about 40 degrees C, I cannot help but feel a “heat wave” is in the works as I think about what’s ahead this fall for Trajan Media.

While we are trying to enjoy hot summer weather, behind the scenes at Trajan – publisher of Canadian Stamp News and Canadian Coin News – we are also busy working on new initiatives we will be releasing this fall and winter.

Here are some of the highlights I want to share with you:

CoinStampClassifieds.com is in the finishing stages of completion and by this fall will be a go-to site to buy and sell stamps, postcards, covers, coins, banknotes, medals, and other related products from across Canada and abroad. It will be FREE to list your collectibles, with Trajan receiving a modest commission on all products sold by sellers. More details will be forthcoming in future issues of CSN, canadianstampnews.com, and through our free and growing e-newsletters.

CoinStampSupplies.com was first launched last November and is serving the Canadian hobby market as the 24/7 e-commerce store to buy your stamp and coin supplies. Over the next several weeks, in partnership with our distributors, we will be adding many more items to our inventory. We offer delivery – via Canada Post Expedited Post and Canpar – across Canada as well as the United States. We will also continue to sell supplies at various stamp and coin shows – which we list on our free, weekly e-newsletter (just sign up by going to our website) – and will be attending some new shows over the next several weeks, including events in Paris, Guelph, and London, Ont.

The creation of an Editorial Advisory Council was first announced earlier this year, and I thank the numerous individuals who applied. The makeup of the board – consisting of philatelists and numismatists – will be unveiled this fall. The council will serve to assist us in providing feedback on our publications and other services we offer, helping us meet the current and future needs of our Canadian philatelic and numismatic communities.

Along with the valuable input we will be garnering from the advisory council, we will be launching an extensive readership survey this fall, asking our readers for their views on our current content and seeking ideas on enhancing the magazine and our websites. If you would like to participate in the survey, be sure to sign up for our e-newsletter at www.canadianstampnews.ca.

So as you enjoy these dog days of summer, be ready for a hot fall as CSN unveils new products and services over the next several months.
