In celebration of Australia’s Stamp Collecting Month this August, that country’s postal service once again issued a set of stamps aimed at engaging young students and their teachers.
This year’s five-stamp “In the Garden” issue is complemented by curriculum-linked lesson plans providing learning opportunities at school and home plus additional information on stamp collecting and production as well as sustainable gardening and broader environmental issues.
A yearly effort from Australia Post, the Stamp Collecting Month resources are available for free at auspost.com.au/scm.
STAMP COLLECTING MONTH AT HOME
While Canada and the U.S. mark Stamp Collecting Month each October, the philatelic celebration has fallen to the wayside in recent years with related stamp issues few and far between.
This year, however, CSN is celebrating Stamp Collecting Month with its second annual cover design contest (CSN Vol. 44 #10, “Clubs, collectors invited to enter 2019 cover contest”). The deadline for submissions is Oct. 1.
