Half a dozen Canadians compete at Pipex

Six Canadian exhibitors are competing at Pipex 2021, the first virtual exhibition belonging to the newly minted Grand Championship Series, a virtual counterpart to the World Series of Philately.

Exhibits for the May 7-9 show were accepted before March 31. Among the 50 competitive exhibits are six entries from Canadian collectors, including:

  • Dave Bartlet, of Calgary, Alta.;
  • Sam Chiu, of North York, Ont.;
  • Neil Donen, of Victoria, B.C.;
  • Luc Freve, of Québec City, Qué.;
  • Michael Mather, of Kentville, N.S.; and
  • Raymond Villeneuve, of Canmore, Alta.

The show’s jury includes chief judge Liz Hisey, of Florida, plus Michael Dixon, of Oregon, Bill Fort, of Virginia, and Mark Banchik, of New York.

The exhibits, including 51 competitive entries plus two non-competitive submissions, can be viewed at pipexstampshow.org/exhibits.html.

PIPEX SEMINARS

Pipex will also host several virtual talks, including one by Chiu on May 9 at 12:30 p.m. entitled “Hankow, China 1891 to 1919.”

The vice-president of the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada, Chiu is also a Fellow of Royal Philatelic Society London and currently serves as the editor of the China Philatelic Society of London’s Journal of Chinese Philately.
