Greene Foundation closed, expertizing delayed

The Vincent Graves Greene Philatelic Research Foundation has suspended all meetings and closed its Toronto headquarters to all visitors effective March 22.

“During the closure we will continue to collect mail from the Post Office Box and we will respond to email and voice mail messages as promptly as circumstances permit,” reads a notice posted to the Greene Foundation website, greenefoundation.ca.

The move came as Ontario entered a state of emergency to combat the COVID-19 outbreak.

President and Chair Garfield Portch is also discouraging collectors from sending in material for expertization during the outbreak; however, the committee’s experts will continue to visit the office – one at a time – to “deal with material already in the stream,” Portch added.

“It will be delayed, but everything will be dealt with as time permits.”
