Edmonton club supports local food bank

The Edmonton Stamp Club (ESC) has continued its long-running tradition in support of the local Edmonton’s Food Bank, an affiliate member of Food Banks Canada that helps about 30,000 people – 40 per cent of them children – each month.

Announced in this October’s ESC Bulletin, the donation included a $50 cheque plus a framed photograph given to Doug Hunter, the food bank’s resource development manager, by ESC member David Pattison.

Formed as the Edmonton Stamp Collector’s Club in the Alberta capital in 1912, the group saw its membership grow from its first “dozen male members to an enthusiastic group of over 500 stamp families, who have met continuously for over 100 years to buy, sell, trade and learn about stamps,” according to the ESC website.

The ESC is the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada’s life chapter #6 and the American Philatelic Society’s chapter #680.
