Curious about judging? This is your chance

The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada is opening the door for collectors curious about exhibiting from a different perspective, one that goes beyond building displays and into the decision making behind the scenes.

Through its Authorized Observer Program, the society is offering collectors a unique opportunity to step inside the judging process and see firsthand how exhibits are evaluated. The initiative is designed to make what can seem like a complex and closed process more approachable.

Participants follow a jury through its work at a show, gaining insight into how exhibits are assessed, how discussions unfold and how final decisions are reached. For many collectors, it offers a rare glimpse into an aspect of the hobby few ever see.

According to organizers, the program is meant to remove barriers and show that judging is not only accessible, but achievable for dedicated collectors willing to learn.

The experience is structured yet informal, allowing participants to observe at their own pace while gaining practical knowledge about the standards and expectations of competitive exhibiting.

For those who have ever wondered what happens on the other side of the judging table, the program may offer the perfect starting point and a pathway into a new role within the hobby.
