Community Foundation accepting grant applications

The Canada Post Community Foundation for Children is now accepting applications for its 2020 grant program.

A total of $1.3 million is available for charities, school programs and groups “that serve the needs of young people,” according to a recent statement from the Community Foundation. The grants are open to national and grassroots local organizations across the country, and the deadline to apply is April 2.

Since 2013, more than 775 organizations have received nearly $9 million as part of the foundation’s grant program, which helps to fund:

  • literacy and language programs;
  • youth outreach services;
  • gender and sexual diversity programs;
  • arts and recreation projects;
  • special education programs;
  • childhood health programs;
  • anti-bullying initiatives;
  • mentoring programs and more.

The grant funding is generated through an annual five-week campaign each fall, when post offices across Canada sell a special semi-postal stamp with a 10-cent surcharge. Some post offices also host separate fundraising events and employees can make voluntary payroll contributions throughout the year.
