Canadian philatelist Sam Chiu celebrated his birthday in memorable fashion, presenting decades of research into Chinese postal history at the prestigious Royal Philatelic Society London.
Chiu’s presentation brought together three of his extensive postal-history exhibits, examining the cities of Chefoo, Wei Hai Wei and Hankow. His specialized approach grew from a realization that the enormous scope of Chinese postal history required him to narrow his collecting focus.
It has been quite a journey. As of April, Chiu had earned 150 medals in national and international competition, including 49 large gold and 53 gold medals, while nine of his exhibits have received a combined 18 American Philatelic Society research awards. E Chiu-RPL
