Tomorrow is the dealer application deadline for CAPEX 22, the first World One-Frame Stamp Championship, slated for June 9-12, 2022.
Canada’s fifth international show since 1951, CAPEX 22 will feature 65 dealer booths at the downtown Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC), whose 28,000-square-foot Constitution Hall will hold both the bourse and hundreds of exhibits. Coming from Canada and abroad, the show’s dealers must apply by April 23 by filling out the application form on the CAPEX website. Prospective dealers can also email Bill Longley, bourse committee chair, with their application information at bourse@capex22.org.
“Booth holders must be a member in good standing of the Canadian Stamp Dealers Association (CSDA) or their national dealer association,” reads the application form, which adds no booth holders or booth representatives will be approved “if they have been expelled from a philatelic society or philatelic trade society,” including but not limited to groups like the CSDA, Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC) or American Philatelic Society.
Standard booths measure three metres by three metres with a pipe and drape backing (including a 2.5-metre draped table and another 2.5-metre back-up table) plus signage and power access. Locked cabinets will also be available for rent.
The booth holder application package includes a floor plan, booth selection, pricing and additional information regarding advertising, sponsorship, customs, taxes and more. The number of available tables is limited, and booths are assigned by CAPEX organizers.
MASSIVE EXHIBITION, SEMINARS & MORE
CAPEX 22 also boasts a first-of-its-kind single-frame competition with 400 exhibits plus a philatelic literature class, seminars, society presentations, receptions, club tables and an evening auction by a major Canadian auction house.
“It is a big deal,” David McLaughlin, chair of the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC) international liaison committee, told CSN last May (“CAPEX 22 ‘a big deal’ for Canadian philately,” Vol. 45 #3).
The 400 single frames at CAPEX 22 will exceed the number of single-frame exhibits that have competed at all FIP shows since 2016.
The single-frame competition is open to any exhibits that have been awarded at least 75 points – a vermeil – at a national-level exhibition since Jan. 1, 2015. Virtual exhibits awarded at least 75 points at national-level virtual exhibitions since Jan 1, 2020, are also eligible to apply. The entry process, including uploading title and synopsis pages, is done entirely on the site, which is available in both English and French.
Hosted by the RPSC, CAPEX 22 will be held under the patronage of Federación Interamericana de Filatelia (FIAF) and the recognition of the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP). All members of the RPSC and FIAF or FIP federations are invited to participate.
