Canadians win APS Chatty Awards

Three Canadian philatelists have won Chatty Awards in recognition of their 2021 Stamp Chat presentations with the American Philatelic Society (APS).

Irv Osterer, of Ottawa, took home the top honour in the Creative Philately category for his presentation, “DIY Valentines, Cool Cancellations, Sweetheart Stamps & More,” hosted in February 2021.

In the Cultural Philately category, Vancouver’s Ed Kroft was crowned the winner for his presentation, “The Doar Ivri First Stamps of Israel: Postal & Commercial Usages of the Three High-Value Doar Ivri Stamps,” held last October.

Gregg Redner, of London, Ont., won the Destination Philately category for his presentation, “The Philately of the 1920 Antwerp Olympics,” held last November.

The other winners included Cheryl Ganz, Trish Kaufmann and Marjory Sente in the Stamps Teach category for their combined presentation, “Social & Historical Research Through Philately.” Ganz also won the Philatelic Storytelling category for her presentation, “Ways to Collect Zeppelin and Airship Mail.”

Since March 2020, the APS has hosted more than 115 virtual Stamp Chat episodes, all of which are available on the society’s YouTube channel, youtube.com/user/AmericasStampClub.
