Canadian exhibition judge Sam Chiu is one of three vice-presidents for the EFIRO 2024 Specialized World Stamp Exhibition, scheduled to run from April 16 to 19 in Bucharest, Romania.
Chiu is among only a few Canadians to serve as a VP at a Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP) exhibition. At the Romania show – the only FIP-sanctioned event in 2024 – Chiu also serves as a juror member for the Asia and Africa postal history category. Earlier this year, Chiu became only the second judge in the world to earn the FIP’s cross-accreditation in the newly created postcard class. At the conclusion of EFIRO, Chiu will conduct a qualification seminar for the Postal History Commission, aimed at philatelists aspiring to become FIP judges in that category.
Fellow Canadian Ed Kroft is also attending EFIRO as a judge for the postal history Americas category. Before the exhibition, the FIP will hold Class No. 9 of the Jury Academy for 16 FIP-accredited jurors. The training will be conducted by FIP director Peter Suhadolc of Slovenia and FIP jury fellow Andrew Cheung of Hong Kong. Kroft will join them as an apprentice trainer for future classes in the Americas.
Additionally, Jane Sodero, another Canadian, will attend EFIRO in her first role as Canadian commissioner. She will bring exhibit entries from 12 Canadians.
