Canada Post unveiled its first depot using all-electric corporate delivery vehicles on March 9 in Nanaimo, B.C.
The electric vehicles were on site for the announcement, which is part of Canada Post’s plan to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. To hit that milestone, the Crown corporation has committed to electrifying half of its national fleet of about 14,000 vehicles by 2030 and the entire fleet by 2040.
“Transforming our fleet will be a challenge, but its impact will be significant,” reads a statement issued by Canada Post last June. “Our vehicles drove 104.1 million kilometres last year – the equivalent of circling the globe more than 2,500 times.”
The unveiling’s special guests included Doug Ettinger, Canada Post’s president and CEO, plus Suromitra Sanatani, who chairs the Crown corporation’s board of directors.
