Canada Post will unveil on Oct. 10 a new series of stamps celebrating the cultural impact of MuchMusic and MusiquePlus, two pioneering television stations that transformed the Canadian music landscape.
These stamps, says Canada Post, pay tribute to the stations’ significant contributions, which connected Canadians with anglophone and francophone musicians, while providing a platform for new and emerging talent.
MuchMusic, often called “the nation’s music station,” became a cultural touchstone for millions of Canadians since its launch in 1984, helping launch the careers of numerous artists and bringing fresh talent to the forefront. MusiquePlus, its francophone counterpart, shaped the Québec music scene by showcasing local artists and creating a unique connection with its audience. Together, the stations provided an interactive experience that inspired generations of Canadian artists and music lovers.
The unveiling of these commemorative stamps will take place on Thursday, October 10, with two separate celebrations at the original homes of MuchMusic and MusiquePlus.
In Toronto, the MuchMusic stamp will be revealed at Bell Media Studios, located at 299 Queen Street West. This location, famously associated with MuchMusic, will host prominent legacy and current VJs, who will share their insights into the station’s influence on Canadian pop culture.
Meanwhile, in Montréal, a celebration for the MusiquePlus stamp will occur at the former MusiquePlus studio at 201 Sainte-Catherine Street East, at the corner of Hôtel-de-Ville Avenue. Attendees will have the chance to connect with past MusiquePlus hosts as they reflect on the station’s significant impact on francophone music.
The postal service said both events will also feature the newest stamps showcased on an iconic Canada Post delivery truck, adding a visual tribute to these beloved music institutions that have left an enduring legacy in Canadian culture.
