Boston 2026 dispels U.S. travel rumours

Organizers of the Boston 2026 World Expo are encouraging international collectors and visitors not to be deterred by online speculation and misinformation regarding travel to the United States.

“There has been much hype and misinformation circulating mostly on social media warning potential visitors to the United States to reconsider their travel plans,” said Thomas M. Fortunato, public relations chair of Boston 2026 and U.S. East Commissioner. “Let’s set the record straight.”

In response to growing concerns, members of the Boston 2026 committee recently reviewed several official government websites from overseas. “We found all had their security alerts of travel to the U.S. at the lowest possible level,” Fortunato noted. “Foreign nationals should review any travel advisories to the U.S. posted on their department of state’s web site for the most complete and accurate details.”

Fortunato acknowledged that recent changes in the U.S. federal administration have resulted in heightened security procedures at the border, which are intended “to ensure security for all.” He added, “Whether driving across the border from Canada or Mexico, or arriving [at] an airport, the documentation requirements remain the same depending [on] one’s country of origin to avoid potential delays.”

Visitors should also be aware of increased border screening measures. “Expect border agent random security checks to possibly include examining electronic devices, cell phones, laptops, and [the] alike—checking phone logs, photos, social media and text messages to prevent entry from wrongdoers,” Fortunato stated.

While some isolated reports of entry denials have surfaced, Fortunato emphasized the broader picture: “A handful of reports of entry denials overshadow the fact that more than 4.5 million non-U.S. citizen air passenger arrivals alone took place last month in March.”

One key update for Canadian visitors is a change to U.S. immigration procedures. “Canadians staying in the U.S. over 30 days are now required to register online with U.S. Immigration authorities in advance of travel. That time period was formerly six months,” he explained.

The Boston 2026 World Expo will be held from May 23 to 30, 2026, at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. Fortunato encourages collectors to visit Boston2026.org and follow the event on Twitter and Facebook. “Sign up to be added to the Boston 2026 email list and receive updates when available,” he added.
