This Labour Day weekend, Harry Sutherland Philatelic Library (HSPL) librarian Kathy Hartley and Library and Archives Canada (LAC) philatelic archivist James Bone were joined by dozens of eager collectors at the LAC Preservation Centre in Gatineau, Qué.
The special tour was co-ordinated by Hartley and Bone in conjunction with BNAPEX, the annual convention of the British North America Philatelic Society (BNAPS) held Aug. 30-Sept. 1.
“We were thrilled to get a behind the scenes look at where some of our country’s treasures are stored, conserved and protected, and had the opportunity to meet and engage with James’s colleagues at LAC,” wrote Hartley in a special BNAPEX edition of the “Friends of the HSPL” newsletter.
“Three display cases of material relating to the St. Lawrence Seaway stamp were available to view, and yes, security was tight. This truly was a one of a kind opportunity and our thanks go out to James and the team in Gatineau.”
A full review of BNAPEX will be published in CSN Vol. 44 #13.
