Another Grand Prix for prolific exhibitor J.J. Tillard

Jean-Jacques Tillard’s eight-frame traditional exhibit, “Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, ses surcharges au 19ème siècle,” won the Grand Prix at Estonia 2020, a national exhibition recognized by the Federation of European Philatelic Associations (FEPA).

With 96 points, Tillard’s exhibit was tied for the highest-scoring entry.

“The jury gave 96 points to two exhibits and therefore the winner of the Grand Prix Estonia 2020 had to be decided by vote,” wrote FEPA webmaster Ari Muhonen, who also served as the exhibition’s jury president, in an article published on the federation’s website.

“The result was revealed in the palmares where the votes were read out one by one.”

The Grand Prix International went to Chris King’s eight-frame postal history exhibit, “The Posts in the City of Lübeck before 1868.”

The Grand Prix National went to Jaan Roots’ seven-frame exhibit, “Estonia 1918.”

In 2016, Tillard commissioned a commemorative medal marking his 100th gold award in philatelic exhibiting.

PROLIFIC EXHIBITOR

A resident of St. Pierre and Miquelon – a French archipelago just south of Newfoundland – Tillard is no stranger to seeing his name on palmares.

In 2016, he topped 100 gold awards after winning both the Grand Award and Single-Frame Grand Award at the inaugural Canpex in London, Ont.

Since 2006, he has won nearly 150 gold or large gold medals.

A total of 36 exhibits by exhibitors from 14 countries competed at the July 10-12 show in Tartu, Estonia.

Established in 1989, FEPA is one of the three continental philatelic organizations that grant patronage to international exhibitions. Its membership includes 43 European countries.

The other two continental organizations are the Federación Inter-Americana de Filatelia, of which Canada is a member, and the Federation of Inter-Asian Philately.
