For the first time since 2019, the Saugeen Stamp Club (SSC) will host its annual show and exhibition in Walkerton, Ont., about 10 kilometres west of the group’s meeting place in nearby Hanover.
“Stamp collecting in Bruce and Grey counties is alive and well,” said SSC co-founder Peter Kritz, who also serves as the club’s vice president.
The group’s first in-person show since the pandemic began is slated for May 7 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the local Legion branch on 505 Scott St.
In addition to judged exhibits, the show will feature 10 dealers plus club circuit books, and show-goers can take advantage of door prizes, a lunch counter and a youth program, including free stamps for children. Both admission and parking are free. Kritz and Jim Measures, who edited the club’s monthly newsletter through its first 88 issues, co-founded the SSC in May 1998. Beginning last spring, the SSC partnered with the Owen Sound Stamp Club to host joint virtual meetings each month until some pandemic restrictions were lifted. The SSC resumed its in-person meetings in December following an 18-month pandemic hiatus.
