Adapting philately for a changing world

As exhibitors competed for top honours and collectors searched for elusive treasures at BOSTON 2026, another important discussion was taking place behind the scenes: how can organized philately adapt to changing demographics, evolving technology and the expectations of future collectors?

One group working to answer that question is the Philatelic Collaboration Crew, an international network of volunteers, society leaders, exhibitors and educators dedicated to helping clubs and organizations remain relevant and sustainable in a rapidly changing world.

The Crew maintained a visible presence throughout the international exhibition, hosting discussions on topics ranging from digital engagement and social media to volunteer recruitment, strategic planning and the future of organized collecting.

Canadian philatelist Jean Wang joined fellow Crew members from several countries for a roundtable discussion that explored how societies can share ideas, resources and successful strategies rather than tackling common challenges alone.

Since its formation following conversations at PIPEX 2024, the volunteer-driven initiative has grown into a global collaborative effort promoting innovation, mentorship and practical solutions for clubs of all sizes.

In the latest issue of Canadian Stamp News, we examine how the Collaboration Crew is using research, shared resources and volunteer expertise to help philatelic organizations attract new collectors, strengthen existing communities and support the long-term health of the hobby.

This is one of many informative, thought-provoking articles in the latest issue of Canadian Stamp News (Vol 51 No 06), released on June 16, 2026.
