An international group of philatelic volunteers and society leaders known as the Philatelic Collaboration Crew is continuing its efforts to modernize organized philately during this week’s Boston 2026 World Expo in Massachusetts.
The informal network, which has gained momentum over the past two years through online presentations, society partnerships and digital-resource sharing, has become increasingly active in helping stamp organizations strengthen communication, improve online engagement and attract new collectors.
The Crew emerged from discussions held during PIPEX 2024 and has since evolved into a collaborative initiative involving collectors, exhibitors, society officers and philatelic educators from several countries. Its focus centres on helping organizations share ideas, reduce duplication and develop practical tools for long-term sustainability.
Additional insight into the group’s evolving mission was outlined in the article “Collaboration: supporting philatelic societies with social media” by Harold Krische and Ingo Nessel, originally published in Canadian Stamp News in June 2025.
Krische and Nessel described the Collaboration Crew as “a group of passionate philatelists representing a diverse range of international philatelic organizations” working to support societies as they adapt to rapid technological and cultural changes.
“Digital transformation and artificial intelligence are reshaping society – and philatelic organizations must adapt to remain connected, vibrant, and relevant in this evolving cultural environment,” the authors wrote.
Members of the Collaboration Crew have participated in webinars, virtual exhibitions and educational programming while also encouraging societies to modernize websites, improve digital outreach and develop more welcoming approaches for younger and newer collectors.

The group has also developed practical organizational resources, including self-assessment worksheets and strategic-planning tools aimed at helping clubs evaluate member engagement, communication and operational effectiveness.
The authors emphasized that while philatelic societies continue to uphold longstanding values such as education and community, organizations must also adapt their outreach strategies to remain sustainable and attractive to future collectors.
One of the Crew’s major recent initiatives was the development of the Social Media Strategy Guide for Stamp Clubs & Societies in November 2024. The five-page document provides practical guidance on using Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube while helping clubs align content with audience interests and available volunteer resources.
The guide also highlights more than 25 successful philatelic content creators and encourages societies to use social media not only for promotion and education but also for building friendships and creating a more welcoming hobby environment.
For many organizations operating with aging memberships, limited finances and volunteer-driven leadership, the Collaboration Crew has positioned itself as a grassroots support network focused on mentorship, shared ideas and practical co-operation rather than formal governance.
“With guidance and support, societies can gain the confidence to embrace new strategies that strengthen local clubs and promote the long-term health of philately,” Krische and Nessel added.
This week, the group is active at Boston 2026 World Expo, one of the world’s largest international philatelic exhibitions held under Fédération Internationale de Philatélie patronage. Running May 23–30 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, the exhibition features thousands of exhibit frames, international dealers, society meetings and educational seminars.
Canadian collectors, exhibitors and society representatives are among those participating throughout the week, with many attendees sharing photos and updates from the international gathering.
The presence of the Collaboration Crew at Boston 2026 reflects a broader movement within organized philately to adapt to changing demographics and evolving collector habits through greater co-operation, innovation and digital engagement.
The group continues to operate as a volunteer-driven initiative relying on shared expertise from collectors and societies across the international philatelic community.
Collectors and philatelic societies interested in learning more about the Philatelic Collaboration Crew can connect with the group through its Facebook community and website, where members regularly share resources, ideas and examples of successful outreach initiatives. The Crew welcomes participation from collectors, exhibitors, club officers, content creators and volunteers interested in helping organized philately adapt and grow through collaboration, mentorship and digital engagement.
