The American Topical Association (ATA) has announced its 67th Annual National Topical Stamp Show will be sponsored by Rasdale Stamp Co., a Chicago-based philatelic business specializing in live auctions.
The show, which will be held June 23-25 in Milwaukee, is still accepting exhibit entries, but the deadline is April 22 (or until all frames have been subscribed). This World Series of Philately show is unique because all of its exhibits must develop a theme or storyline based on the image or wording of the material shown. In other words, every exhibit at this all-thematic exhibition will tell a story.
New this year is the “Topical Exhibits” category included in the revised American Philatelic Society Manual of Philatelic Judging and Exhibiting, which is available for download at stamps.org. This new category was developed to encourage topical collectors to exhibit. Topical exhibits – also known as thematic exhibits – are composed of a variety of philatelic elements to illustrate a topic, theme or subject.
The venue for the 2017 National Topical Stamp Show is the Crowne Plaza Milwaukee Airport, which is about six hours away from Windsor, Ont. The show is slated to include a variety of different stamp exhibitions for particular themes of stamps: Friday will focus on stamps with nature themes; Saturday will highlight stamps with cultural themes; and Sunday’s theme is set to be technology.
An entry fee of $5 covers all three days of the weekend-long event, which will be attended by dealers and collectors from across the U.S. Meetings, seminars, speakers, activities, a silent auction and other special events, including youth activities, are also scheduled to take place.
