Orapex, the Ottawa RA Centre Philatelic Exhibition, will return to the nation’s capital this May 4-5.
One of only five national-level stamp shows taking place in Canada this year, Orapex is part of the American Philatelic Society’s “World Series of Philately.”
This year marks the 58th anniversary of Orapex, which is managed by volunteers from the RA Stamp Club, the Amicale des philatélistes de l’Outaouais, the Ottawa Philatelic Society and related philatelic societies and organizations.
For the 2019 show, the theme is “Elizabethan-Era Philately,” and there will be upwards of 125 competitive exhibit frames along with several non-competitive exhibits, local club-sponsored frames and a special “Youth Booth” for young collectors.
ORAPEX HONOUREE
Each year, Orapex also honours a philatelist who has made a significant contribution to the hobby. This year’s show honouree will be Robert Lemire, who’s a past president of the British North America Philatelic Society.
Orapex also boasts about 40 stamp dealers on its bourse and runs an impressive series of society meetings, seminars and study groups.
Admission and parking are both free, and the venue is wheelchair accessible. The show will be open to the public on May 4 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and on May 5 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. For more information, visit orapex.ca or contact info@orapex.ca.
