USPS unveils Boston 2026 daily postmarks

The United States Postal Service has unveiled a series of eight themed daily postmarks for use at the Boston 2026 World Expo, offering collectors a structured and visually consistent set of souvenirs from the international philatelic event.

Each postmark follows a standardized design, featuring a circular image tied to a daily theme positioned above a banner reading “Boston 2026 World Expo.” The themed illustrations include subjects such as sports, with a soccer ball representing Sports Day, among others scheduled throughout the exhibition.

Below the central design, each marking includes the specific theme day title, followed by the word “Station,” in keeping with USPS pictorial postmark guidelines. The dated line beneath reads “May 2X, 2026 – Boston, MA 02205,” with the final digit reflecting the corresponding day of use.

The consistent format, measuring 2.72 inches wide by 1.22 inches high, is intended to simplify placement for collectors and cachet makers preparing covers during the show. All postmarks will be available through USPS cancellation booths on site, with hand-back service offered from each postmark’s first day of use through the close of the exhibition.

For Canadian collectors planning to attend, the daily postmarks are expected to be a key attraction, particularly for those assembling thematic or event-based collections tied to major international exhibitions. U.S. pictorial cancels have long been popular among Canadian exhibitors and specialists, especially when tied to limited-time events.

Adding to the appeal, noted American stamp designer Chris Calle is preparing a series of limited-edition official show cachets based on the daily themes. These will be available for purchase during the event and are expected to complement the USPS postmarks.

Boston 2026 World Expo is scheduled for May 23 to 30 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. The show is expected to draw collectors, exhibitors and dealers from around the world, including a strong Canadian contingent.
