The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has announced it will dedicate a Forever stamp depicting the U.S. national flag at a first-day ceremony slated to take place at the Southeastern Stamp Expo on Jan. 27.
Expected to be in attendance at the ceremony are American Philatelic Society President Mick Zais; USPS Director of Stamp Services Mary-Anne Penner; and USPS Chief Human Resources Officer and Executive Vice-President Jeff Williamson.
The non-denominated Forever stamp will be issued in panes of 10 and 20 stamps as well as in coil format. The design features a detail from a photograph of the billowing “Stars and Stripes” taken from a photograph by Tom Gill. The stamp was designed by Greg Breeding, of Charlottesville, Va., and Terrence McCaffrey served as the art director. McCaffrey is a former manager of USPS Stamp Development that retired from the postal service in 2010.
